Their reduced size means the spirit has more contact with the wood, amplifying the natural flavours of whisky first matured in ex-Bourbon barrels. Hints of coconut, banana and vanilla complement our instantly recognisable heavy peat flavour, followed by a long, sweet and smoky finish. This quarter cask whisky is barrier filtered to retain all the character developed in the small but mighty barrels. Located at 798 meters above sea level in Nagano's Japanese Alps, Mars Shinshu is Japan's highest whisky distillery.
